Vince Russo Gives Dissenting Opinions on Sami Zayn’s Raw Appearance

Sami Zayn, the most popular superstar from WWE’s NXT brand, made a surprise debut on Monday Night Raw to face a top star in John Cena.  The response to the NXT star”s first appearance on Raw was met with critical praise and excitement from the fan base.  However, the episode was reportedly met with Raw’s lowest rating of the year, which according to Wrestling Observer was the lowest non-holiday, non-Football, viewership for Monday Night Raw since 1997.

Vince Russo took to his blog and gave controversial opinions about this week’s episode of Raw and focused heavily on Sami Zayn’s debut.  Needless to say, most fans of Sami Zayn aren’t going to like it.

Here are a couple excerpts from Russo’s blog post.

RAW is a television show and Sami Zayn is NOT a television star—nor—will he be anytime soon. Sami is an exceptional wrestler on a wrestling show, and the only people who care about him are those die hard wrestling fans who are looking for 5-star matches that the massive don’t give a !@#$% about.”

RAW wasn’t a GREAT show because Sami Zayn was on it—and the numbers clearly back that up.”

My opinion? I think WWE built a solid foundation for Sami Zayn’s future by giving him a debut that got fans talking and potentially get them excited to see him again.  Russo mentions that he isn’t a television star at the moment.  OK, fair enough, but would it be unfair to say WWE took a big leap forward into eventually making him into one?

I want to see Sami succeed as I think he is great on the mic and great in the ring. I hope his injury isn’t severe to where the nXt special card changes, but I’m afraid it may set him back and people in the back will see him differently.

I love the idea that an unadvertised Sami Zayn, in ONE segment against John Cena is pointed at as the sole reason for Raw’s rating. Why does anyone even listen to Vince Russo anymore?

I wasn’t referring to Russo’s comment, but regarding McMahon. Supposedly, Bryan wasn’t in the main event of WM was due to him being “injury prone” (even though it’s only once) and decides to put him in a ladder match (great thinking)… I’m afraid McMahon may view Zayn as “injury prone”. You never know with is company…
