In the same week that it was announced Sami Zayn suffered a shoulder injury during his Monday Night Raw debut, it has been reported by PWInsider that Hideo Itami’s shoulder is also injured and will keep him out of action for at least 6-8 months. The timing could not possibly be any worse given that NXT’s next Takeover special, Unstoppable, is set to take place on May 20th and later this year, NXT was to go on the road outside of Florida. The absences of Zayn & Itami would definitely be felt. There have been no updates on Sami Zayn’s condition and how long he might be out for, but for NXT to lose two of their top stars right before such huge events is a heavy blow. (EDITORIAL COMMENT, However, I would not be surprised if Sami’s injury was a work to add hype onto the match with Owens, but we shall see).
Itami is currently scheduled to face Tyler Breeze and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat Number One Contenders match at NXT: Unstoppable. There is no word on whether or not Itami will miss the match or not, but it is likely an update will be provided during the next episode of NXT on May 13th.
