Full Tournament Brackets for NXT’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

(NOTE: This post contains spoilers from last week’s episode of NXT, so be careful).

On last week’s episode of NXT, the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic began. 16 tag teams are set to compete in a tournament that was created to celebrate the life and career of “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. WWE has provided the full layout of the tournament with all competing teams and opening round matches listed.

Bracket A:
Finn Balor and Samoa Joe
Vs. The Lucha Dragons (scheduled for 9/9 edition of NXT)

Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy
Vs. Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton

Bracket B:
NXT Tag Team Champs, The Vaudevillains
Vs. Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy

Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder
Vs. Tucker Knight and Elias Sampson

Bracket C:
The Hype Bros
Vs. Marcus Louis and Alexander Wolfe

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable
Vs. Solomon Crowe and Neville (took place on 9/2 episode of NXT; Gable and Jordan advanced)

Bracket D:
Baron Corbin and Rhyno
Vs. The Ascension (took place on 9/2 episode of NXT; Corbin and Rhyno advanced)

Tyler Breeze and Bull Dempsey
Vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa (scheduled for 9/9 edition of NXT)

The two winning teams in each bracket will then face each other to determine the winner of that bracket. The winning teams from brackets A & B will face each other and the winning teams from brackets C & D will face each other. The two remaining teams will then compete at NXT’s next Takeover Special on October 7, 2015 to determine the winner of the tournament.

Personally, I think it is nice to see NXT focusing a little bit more attention on the tag team division as that has really been the one thing the brand truly lacked. With such strong main events and women’s matches, it would be nice to see NXT’s tag team division get elevated to that level as well. NXT has recently created some interesting pairings like Gable and Jordan, and the additions of independent stars Gargono and Ciampa brings some new life to NXT. Stars like Finn Balor, Neville, and Samoa Joe have been included to help generate more interest as well, and even past NXT tag champions The Ascension and The Lucha Dragons being included is nice as well.

Hopefully this tag team tournament turns out well and NXT is able to create something special with the tag team division moving forward.
